As 64North’s Associate Director for Sustainability, David Wachtel, RA, LEED GA is responsible for the design, management, and construction of many of the studio’s multifamily, mixed-use, creative office, commercial, and hospitality projects. His work draws on a decade of experience integrating design, documentation, coordination, and construction to ensure projects are realized in a comprehensive, integrated manner from schematics to final punch list.
Prior to joining 64North, David was a Senior Designer at CallisonRTKL, where his work focused on the design, entitlement, development, and construction of Type I and III residential developments for domestic and international clients in Los Angeles and San Diego, as well as select commercial and mixed-use projects. Prior to his work at CRTKL, David also worked for Gensler Los Angeles’ mixed-use studio. He also gives back to the community through his work with the ACE mentoring program and the Open Architecture Collaborative. David is a registered architect and a LEED Accredited Professional.
David brings to each project a significant passion and expertise for sustainable designs that are efficient, resilient, and cost-effective. He has led the analysis of environmental impacts and performance including life cycle costing, daylighting, solar exposure, and energy use. Building on this expertise, David co-founded Los Angeles’ Carbon Leadership Forum, educating other architects and leading collaborative efforts with the construction industry.
Born in San Diego, David received his degree in architecture from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo with Sustainable Environments focus. Outside of work, he enjoys tennis, reading, and philately.
