Its five masts connected by a unique cable-stayed tensegrity structure, the Five Sails Bridge, for which Wil Carson was the Project Designer at Michael Maltzan Architecture, is the central connective element of a major new 565-acre development in Chengdu, the cultural heart of China’s Sichuan Province. The bridge spans more than 700 feet in length, touching down at just two points, linking pedestrian and cyclist paths with a marina level beneath, as the bridge takes its place at the nexus of the development’s expansive network of canals and lakes.
